Community Partner FAQ

What is the AU Day of Service?

Day of Service is a special day each year when the faculty, staff, students and families of Augusta University come together to positively impact our community through meaningful service in partnership with a wide variety of community partners across the CSRA like yours.

What is the deadline for submitting my organization’s project proposal?

Day of Service Community Partner Project Proposals should be submitted no later than Friday, May 4th to ensure consideration for inclusion as part of our 2018 Day of Service. If you anticipate having an issue meeting that deadline please contact us.

Why are you requesting proposals in the spring for your Day of Service that takes place in November?

Once we close our project portal in May, we review all of the service projects that have been submitted, work with organizations on any refinements and adjustments to their proposals that need to be made and then our team keys each individual project (100+ proposals expected this year) into our volunteer registration system.  This process generally takes most of the summer to complete in order to  open up volunteer registration to our students and employee volunteers in August.

We would like to host projects at several different locations around town. Is this ok?

Yes.  We encourage you to submit as many projects as needed.  We have more than 1000 volunteers and are always looking for more projects to keep everyone engaged.  Please note that each project location should be submitted as its own separate project proposal. Please do not try to combine projects on one proposal.

We want to participate in Day of Service, but my project won’t take all day. How long does the project have to take?

There is no required timeline for your service project.  Your project can start as early as 7am and run as late as 5pm.  Your volunteer shift schedule should be what best fits the needs of your project. Our only request is that you try to schedule around our Day of Service Volunteer Appreciation Picnic scheduled from 11am-1pm.  We generally recommend scheduling at least one project volunteer  shift in the morning before 11am and if applicable, one shift in the afternoon after 1pm.

What is the Day of Service Volunteer Appreciation Celebration Picnic and is this something that I need to attend?

The Day of Service Volunteer Appreciation Picnic is a fun, family-style outdoor picnic celebration for our volunteers and their families.  Our Day of Service community partners are also invited to join us for this event to celebrate our partnership together.

How do you determine which service projects are accepted as part of the AU Day of Service?

Our goal is to be as inclusive as possible when we are reviewing the project proposals.  We do look for a few key project characteristics including:

  • Is your project well-planned and organized?
  • Are you responsive to any questions or feedback we may have about your project?
  • Will you have adequate supplies and resources on sight for the AU volunteers on November 3rd?
  • If your project is outdoors, do you have a rain plan in place?

When will we know if you’ve chosen our project to be a part of this year’s Day of Service event?

We will notify all community partners of their proposal status on or before the end of July, 2018.

Can Augusta University provide funding for my organization’s project?

No. Day of Service is a day for our students, employees and their families to give back to the community through service.  Augusta University does not provide funding for these service projects.

Does Augusta University provide supplies for my organization’s project?

No.  All community projects should be self-funded.  Augusta University does not provide funding or supplies for these projects.

I have a project in mind, but it will require volunteers with a specific skillset (i.e. artists, carpenters, nurses, etc.) Is this something that I can request?

Yes.  Our Augusta University family has a wide range of talents and skillsets.  If you have a project in mind that might require a very specific skillset, please contact the Office of Volunteer Services at 706-721-3596.

I definitely want to participate, but I’m having a hard time coming up with a service project idea. What should I do?

We’re here to help.  Please feel free to reach out to our Volunteer Services office at 706-721-3596 to talk through ideas and brainstorm on the best way to make your project a success.
