Turn Back The Block AM Shift
Saturday, Nov 4, 2017
8:00am – 11:00am
Harrisburg is a historic neighborhood in the corridor that connects Augusta University’s Summerville Campus and the Health Sciences Campus. This former mill village once housed workers of the King, Sibley, Enterprise, and Sutherland Mills that line the banks of the Augusta Canal. Harrisburg fell into decline following the closure of the mills, but is beginning to see new life as downtown Augusta grows. Turn Back the Block is leading the charge to bring new life to Harrisburg’s housing stock by turning abandoned homes and vacant lots into affordable home ownership opportunities through donations and volunteer labor.
Volunteers are needed to help paint picket fences at five homes that Turn Back the Block rehabbed on Broad St. Work will involve scraping old paint and applying two new coats of paint.
Volunteers are asked to park at Martha Lester School (1688 Broad St.) and walk to the work site.
Children of any age are welcome to participate as long as they are chaperoned by an adult.
