Hope House strives to instill self-sufficiency in individuals and families through comprehensive treatment to end the cycle of substance misuse, untreated mental illness, and poverty. Our organization strives to empower individuals through prevention education, clinical treatment, and recovery supports to create sustainable change. Hope House’s ultimate goal is to help our individuals and families become self-sufficient as contributing members of society.

Hope House hosts a Thanksgiving Dinner every year for staff and all of the families in our program. This year we want to take the burden of cooking, serving, and clean up from staff so that they can use this time to fellowship with each other and the women and children on campus. This would be an in-person volunteer event held on November 16th. Timing is flexible – we can accomodate a late Thanksgiving lunch (around 2pm) or a Thanksgiving dinner (around 5pm). WHAT WE NEED: 6-12 volunteers to assist with preparation, cooking, serving, and clean up of the Thanksgiving meal. There will be approximately 90 people (staff & clients) in attendance. WHAT WE HAVE: Hope House has a full industrial style kitchen for use by volunteers and Hope House will provide the food to be cooked. Because we receive food donations from Golden Harvest Food Bank and from individuals in the community we are not able to know exactly what we will have, but generally we have at least 3-4 turkeys and 4-5 hams along with the ingredients to make traditional Southern Thanksgiving staples (cranberry sauce, mac & cheese, greenbean casserole, pies, etc.).

Hope House provides residential substance use disorder treatment to homeless and low-income women and children. There are more than 90 families enrolled in our programs at one time receiving treatment as well as support in education, employment, legal assistance, and family therapy. Each holiday season we have a White Christmas campaign for donations of household paper products. This is a virtual volunteer opportunity for groups to collect household paper products that we use year-round. The items requested are: toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates, plastic utensils. trash bags, plastic cups, napkins, to-go boxes.
