The Friends of the Augusta Library is an independent, nonprofit, volunteer association of persons whose purpose is to enhance and enrich the reading, educational, and cultural opportunities available to the citizens of the Augusta, Georgia area by supporting and promoting the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library System (“the Library”), and by supporting and promoting an active interest in books, literature, education, public access to information, and library programming among such association and the greater community.

We are seeking volunteers to help with our book sale Thursday November 3rd thru Sunday November 6. Volunteers should be:

  • reasonably fit; we are moving book-boxes and setting up tables mainly on Thurs and Sun;
  • enthusiastic about books and/or media and enjoy being around other bibliophile volunteers and customers
  • be able to read & sort materials into basic fiction and non-fiction categories.

On Friday & Saturday we do have a ‘square’ device for charging purchases: if you are competent and comfortable with using one, let us know. A perk for you is a number of free books of your choice to keep.

We also have volunteer opportunities beyond the day of service. We are looking for librarians, educators, or anyone with a field of expertise to help us evaluate books and materials at any time before or after the sale. We are also looking for volunteers to work in our Book Shop on a regular basis. We will train and entrust you to operate independently as a regular book shop volunteer on week-days or weekends in 2 hour shifts. The Book Shop is a good place to obtain and practice basic customer service and business skills. Regular volunteers must be able to pass a background check.
